The week I moved to Cheyenne, one of the first people I met was the mayor, Marian Orr. When I asked what she was most proud of about the city, she listed her favorites without hesitation. Prominent among them was Ballet Wyoming. Mayor Orr explained that we have talented artists running this company, and the dancers are chosen through a rigorous vetting process. So naturally, when my CBS News Director asked for May Sweeps ideas, I immediately thought of the Ballet. Here is my feature:

After doing these interviews and meeting the dancers, I couldn’t let their production of Midsummer Night’s Dream come and go without seeing it. This picture was taken on my way to the theater. I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed because I had seen a rehearsal—and I wasn’t. If you’re ever in Cheyenne, I recommend catching a Ballet Wyoming performance.

My News Director and I had quite the adventure chasing moving houses!

Three historic houses were being moved across town at a pretty slow speed. That is, until it was time for my live shot. Then, for that brief period, the pace picked up so fast that we were racing after the houses because we wanted them to be in the live feature.

We finally caught up, but couldn’t get close enough without crawling on the dirt under a fence while carrying our equipment. We barely got set up just in time for my News Director to say, “cue.” Here’s the result! There aren’t many News Directors who would go to that length to help their reporter get an interesting story.

In Seattle, where I just moved from, the weather can also be fickle, but we can always count on magnificent April tulips.

So, today I’m fondly remembering my trip last year to Tulip Valley.

It’s officially April, and we might be tempted to think that spring sunshine is here to stay. But don’t be deceived into believing that winter has gone on hiatus. I recently moved to Cheyenne for work. I love it here, but Mother Nature has a way of playing tricks on us. The sun can make a stunning appearance, followed by rain and even snow…all in the same day! When you have to get dressed for work early in the morning, and be prepared for all four seasons, here is my trick: layering and more layering.

I first wore this outfit on a trip to New York. It’s perfect for varying conditions because with a wool coat, the weather man can bring on the rain, and even snow. Regardless, you’re ready. For extra warmth, I keep a scarf and gloves on hand. And when the sun breaks through the clouds, off comes the coat, and I’m comfortably wearing a lightweight vest.

Now for the exciting news… I already gave you a little hint that changes were happening when I had to stop hosting my VS1 show for another opportunity. Well… I can finally tell you what it is. I moved to Cheyenne to be a reporter/anchor for CBS News Channel 5! This is my dream job and I couldn’t be happier. I will definitely keep blogging as much as I have time because I love interacting with all of you.

I had so much fun interacting with viewers, chatting about everything from makeup and travel to dating and dance, and being immersed in the live experience. Here is a picture from one of the makeup tutorials that I did on my VS1 Beauty Breakdown segment.

From that and other hosting work, I have received an exciting opportunity that I can’t wait to tell you all about. You won’t have to wait long to find out…at least it better not be long, because I’m bursting with anticipation. I’d like to spill it right now…but since I can’t yet, I’ll give you a hint. It involves television and I already started training! I’ll no longer have the time to do my four-hour VS1 week-day show and I’ll definitely miss it, but I’m looking forward to this new chapter. Who’s excited to see the new production of Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson? That would be me! When I was little, I loved the Disney animated movie so much that I had Belle everything…Belle costumes, Belle notebooks, Belle hair ties. Today, I’m well past the days of carrying my peanut butter and jelly sandwich in my Belle lunchbox, but I’m so not over wanting to recreate Belle’s look.

Seattle has a bad reputation for its rain. To me, it’s not merited. I love a cozy drizzle, but right now I’m all about snow! The second these beautiful flakes made their appearance, I ran outside. That was at 1am! I was up late working on a video project for a blog brand deal. Then the next day I ran out to snap these pictures.
