Graduate Capstone Celebration

August 9, 2026

My dad surprised me with this scrumptious cake to celebrate submitting my graduate journalism capstone this weekend. The project entailed three multi-layered, multimedia stories, mixing broadcast-style and print-driven content. For it, I interviewed 18 sources, filmed and edited more than 20 hours of footage and wrote about 10,000 words. I am so grateful to the people who let me not only interview them but spend many hours observing them for my capstone. I featured veteran journalists, as well as individuals and families in different age brackets, highlighting how they watched, read and listened to news. They ranged from ages 29 to 86 years old. I also included an adorable one-year-old future news consumer and a newsroom dog, Oliver.

The guidance from my capstone adviser, USA TODAY editor, Austin Bogues, and my pre-capstone adviser, Professor June Carolyn Erlick was wonderful. Every single day during this experience, I learned more than I could have wished for. I have more requirements to fulfill before graduating and am excited to continue learning.
